Short answer: For most SaaS teams on Stripe that want MRR, churn and cohorts out of the box, ChartMogul or Baremetrics. If you bill through a merchant of record like Paddle, Polar.sh, Freemius, Creem.io or Lemon Squeezy, or want to see which marketing channels bring paying customers, Chartsy. If you want something free and you're on Paddle or Stripe Billing, ProfitWell Metrics. If you already run billing on Chargebee or Maxio, use the analytics that come with it. If your questions mix revenue with product or CRM data, a BI tool like Metabase on top of a warehouse.
Every price below was checked on the vendor's own pricing page in October 2026. Where a vendor doesn't document something, the table says so instead of guessing.
Disclosure: Chartsy is our product. We've listed it alongside its competitors, with the same fact card and the same "not ideal for" line as everyone else.
What buyers ask when they choose subscription analytics software
These are the questions this guide answers. If you only have one of them, skip to the comparison table or the FAQ at the end.
- What's the best subscription analytics software for a Stripe-only SaaS?
- ChartMogul vs Baremetrics: which one for an early-stage startup?
- Is ProfitWell Metrics still free in 2026, and do I need Paddle to use it?
- Which subscription analytics tools work with Polar.sh, Freemius, Creem.io or Lemon Squeezy?
- Which tools show revenue by marketing channel, not just MRR?
- Why doesn't my dashboard's MRR match the number in Stripe?
- Which tools have an MCP server so I can ask Claude or ChatGPT about my revenue?
- When is a BI tool better than a dedicated subscription analytics tool?
How we evaluated these tools
We compared every tool on the same six points:
- Price at your stage. The starting price, and what it's priced on (ARR, MRR, billing volume, seats or usage). Tools priced on revenue get more expensive as you grow even if you use them the same way.
- Billing sources. Which payment and billing systems connect natively, and which need an import.
- Built-in SaaS metrics. Whether MRR, ARR, churn, LTV, ARPU and an MRR movement breakdown (new, expansion, contraction, churn, reactivation) come pre-built or have to be modelled yourself.
- Metric definitions. How the tool handles trials, discounts, refunds, cancellations at period end and currency conversion. These are why two tools show different MRR for the same account.
- Beyond revenue. Marketing attribution, forecasting, dunning, sharing with investors, and warehouse export.
- AI and MCP. Whether there's an in-app assistant, and whether there's an MCP server you can connect to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.

The best subscription analytics software, compared
ChartMogul
Best for: SaaS teams that want the most complete pre-built subscription metrics and bill through one or more mainstream billing systems.
ChartMogul is the most established dedicated subscription analytics platform. It imports billing data from a long list of systems (its integrations page lists Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee, Recurly, Braintree, Zuora, PayPal, GoCardless, App Store Connect, Google Play and more), normalizes it into one subscription model, and builds MRR, ARR, churn, LTV, cohorts and customer profiles on top. It's a common choice for teams that report to investors and want definitions finance will accept.
Fact card:
- Pricing: Free up to $10K MRR. Starter from $69/mo ($57/mo billed annually), Pro from $119/mo ($99/mo annually), both rising with ARR. Enterprise from $19,900/yr. (pricing)
- Free tier or trial: Free plan under $10K MRR; 14-day trial, no card
- Billing sources: 30+ billing and payment systems, plus an Import API and CSV. Paddle connects through SaaSync, a third-party connector. We found no native Polar.sh, Freemius, Creem.io or Lemon Squeezy connector.
- Metrics: MRR movements, cohorts, segmentation, customer profiles
- AI and MCP: ChartMogul AI assistant in-app, and a read-only MCP server
- Export: Data warehouse destinations on Pro and Enterprise
- Not ideal for: Merchant-of-record sellers on Polar.sh, Lemon Squeezy, Creem.io or Freemius, and teams that want to see which marketing channels bring paying customers.
See ChartMogul alternatives or Chartsy vs ChartMogul.
Baremetrics
Best for: Stripe-first startups that want a polished, ready-made metrics dashboard with forecasting and optional dunning.
Baremetrics has been the friendly face of Stripe analytics for years. It connects in minutes, shows MRR, ARR, churn, LTV and ARPU on a clean dashboard, and adds forecasting, a public "Open Startups" metrics page, and paid add-ons for failed-payment recovery and cancellation insights.
Fact card:
- Pricing: Launch $75/mo, Growth $255/mo, Scale $1,152/mo on monthly billing, by ARR band (the pricing FAQ quotes lower starting prices, which appear to be annual rates). Payment Recovery and Cancellation Insights are +$129/mo each. (pricing)
- Free tier or trial: Free trial; length not stated
- Billing sources: Stripe, Braintree, Chargebee, Recurly, Apple App Store, Google Play, Shopify, QuickBooks Online, Xero and a Universal Connector. Paddle isn't listed on the pricing page.
- Metrics: Core SaaS metrics, forecasting, benchmarks
- AI and MCP: A read-only MCP server for Claude desktop, Cursor and Codex, connected with an API key
- Export: CSV exports; Analytics API on Scale
- Not ideal for: Teams on Paddle or a merchant of record, and teams that don't want the bill to grow with ARR.
See Baremetrics alternatives or Chartsy vs Baremetrics.
Chartsy
Best for: Founders who want an easy MRR dashboard and want to see which marketing channels bring paying customers, especially on Paddle or a merchant of record.
Chartsy connects to Stripe, Paddle (Billing and Classic), Polar.sh, Freemius, Creem.io and Lemon Squeezy, syncs your last 24 months of history, and shows MRR, ARR, churn, LTV, NRR and ARPU with an MRR breakdown by new, expansion, contraction, churned and reactivated revenue. Several accounts, even on different providers, add up into one MRR number.
What sets it apart is revenue attribution. Add one script to your website and Chartsy follows each customer from their first visit to signup to first payment, so you see MRR by channel, campaign and referrer, including AI assistants like ChatGPT. Every metric is calculated from paid invoices or orders, as described in How We Calculate MRR at Chartsy.
Fact card:
- Pricing: Starter from $9/mo, Growth from $29/mo, priced on tracked website visits and signups rather than revenue. Yearly billing gives two months free. (pricing)
- Free tier or trial: 14-day trial, no card
- Billing sources: Stripe, Paddle Billing, Paddle Classic, Polar.sh, Freemius, Creem.io, Lemon Squeezy. Two sources on Starter, 20 on Growth.
- Metrics: MRR breakdown, churn, LTV, NRR, ARPU, plan and country breakdowns, goals, revenue by marketing channel
- AI and MCP: In-app chat and chart builder, plus a read-only MCP server with 19 tools for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other clients
- Sharing: Share links, PDF export, weekly email report, daily briefing
- Privacy: GDPR mode keeps customer names and emails out of the sync (not available for Freemius)
- Not ideal for: Teams on Chargebee, Recurly, Braintree or app stores, teams that need automated dunning, CRM-style customer profiles or a data-warehouse export, and Paddle Classic sellers who need revenue by channel.
ProfitWell Metrics (Paddle)
Best for: Teams on Paddle Billing or Stripe Billing that want solid subscription metrics for free.
ProfitWell Metrics is now part of Paddle, and it's still free. Paddle sellers get it included, and it also reads from Stripe Billing and several other billing systems. It covers the standard metrics and retention reporting without asking for a card.
Fact card:
- Pricing: Free (product page)
- Free tier or trial: Free
- Billing sources: Paddle Billing, Stripe Billing, Chargebee, Recurly, Braintree, Zuora, Maxio, Recharge and a Transactions API. No CSV upload.
- Metrics: MRR, churn, retention, LTV
- AI and MCP: Not documented
- Watch out for: If you use Stripe only as a payment gateway, without Stripe Billing, Paddle's docs say you get retention and cash-flow metrics only. Free accounts unused for more than 12 months are deleted.
- Not ideal for: Teams that want custom dashboards, marketing attribution, or a merchant of record other than Paddle.
See Best ProfitWell Alternatives.
Stripe Billing analytics and Stripe Sigma
Best for: Stripe-only teams that want to stay inside Stripe, and teams with someone comfortable writing SQL.
Stripe Billing includes subscription analytics (MRR, churn, retention) in the Dashboard. For anything those charts don't answer, Stripe Sigma gives you SQL over your Stripe data, with an assistant that writes queries for you. Stripe's Data Pipeline sends the same data to a warehouse.
Fact card:
- Pricing: Billing is 0.7% of Billing volume on pay-as-you-go. Sigma from $15/mo for up to 250 charges, then 6¢ per charge ($10/mo annual). Data Pipeline from $65/mo. (Sigma pricing)
- Free tier or trial: 30-day Sigma trial
- Billing sources: Stripe only
- Freshness: Billing charts update within about an hour; Sigma data lags about three hours (Stripe docs)
- AI and MCP: Sigma's query assistant. Stripe's MCP server has an analytics tool in preview that needs Sigma.
- Not ideal for: Anyone with a second billing source, and non-technical founders who'd rather not write SQL.
For how the Stripe MCP compares with an analytics MCP, see Stripe MCP vs an Analytics MCP. For a direct comparison, see Chartsy vs Stripe Sigma.
Chargebee RevenueStory
Best for: Companies that already run subscriptions in Chargebee.
RevenueStory is Chargebee's reporting layer, with 150+ reports covering revenue, subscriptions and retention, and a report builder for your own.
Fact card:
- Pricing: Included with Chargebee Billing: $0 plus 0.80%, or $99/mo plus 0.65% of invoicing volume. Enterprise on quote. (pricing)
- Free tier or trial: Free trial
- Billing sources: Your subscriptions must live in Chargebee. Stripe can be the payment gateway underneath.
- AI and MCP: Copilot in beta, and MCP servers
- Not ideal for: Anyone not billing through Chargebee.
Maxio
Best for: B2B SaaS with finance-heavy needs such as revenue recognition, and a finance team that owns reporting.
Maxio combines billing, revenue recognition and SaaS metrics. It's built for finance teams rather than founders checking a dashboard.
Fact card:
- Pricing: Grow $599/mo for up to $100K in monthly billings, Scale on quote (pricing)
- Free tier or trial: Demo
- Billing sources: Maxio Billing, with a Stripe sync that runs hourly or nightly
- AI and MCP: An MCP server with read-only and read-create roles
- Not ideal for: Early-stage teams. The entry price is aimed at companies with a finance function.
Metabase
Best for: Teams with a data warehouse that want to join revenue with product, CRM or support data.
Metabase is a BI tool, not a subscription analytics product. It doesn't connect to Stripe directly. You load billing data into a database or warehouse first (Stripe Data Pipeline or a tool like Fivetran), then define MRR and churn yourself. In return, you can ask questions no dedicated tool can, such as revenue by feature usage.
Fact card:
- Pricing: Open source and free to self-host. Cloud Starter $100/mo for 5 users, Pro $575/mo for 10 users. (pricing)
- Free tier or trial: Free self-hosted; 14-day cloud trial
- Billing sources: None directly; any SQL database or warehouse
- Metrics: None pre-built; you model MRR, churn and LTV yourself
- AI and MCP: Metabot assistant, and an MCP server
- Not ideal for: Teams without someone to build and maintain the metric definitions. Subscription maths is easy to get subtly wrong.
What about your payment provider's built-in dashboard?
Paddle, Polar.sh, Lemon Squeezy, Creem.io and Freemius all ship their own dashboards, and for a first product they're often enough. They share the same limits: each covers only its own account, none shows which marketing channels brought paying customers, and their MRR definitions differ from each other's. For example, Polar's docs count paused and past-due subscriptions in MRR until they end. When you outgrow one, see the provider-specific guides:
- Best Stripe analytics tools
- Best Paddle analytics tools
- Best Polar.sh analytics tools
- Best Lemon Squeezy analytics tools
Which subscription analytics software should you choose?
You're on Stripe, under $10K MRR, and want the standard metrics: ChartMogul's free plan or ProfitWell Metrics.
You're on Stripe and want the most complete metrics as you grow: ChartMogul. Baremetrics if you'd rather have a simpler dashboard with forecasting and dunning add-ons.
You're on Paddle: ProfitWell Metrics if free and standard is enough. Chartsy if you also want revenue by channel or combine Paddle with another provider. See Paddle analytics.
You're on Polar.sh, Freemius, Creem.io or Lemon Squeezy: Chartsy, which connects all four natively. See Polar, Freemius, Creem or Lemon Squeezy analytics.
You want to know which marketing channels bring paying customers: Chartsy. See revenue attribution for SaaS.
You run billing on Chargebee or Maxio: use their built-in reporting first.
Your questions mix revenue with product usage or CRM data: Metabase or another BI tool on a warehouse.
Why two tools show different MRR for the same account
If you trial two tools, their MRR will rarely match each other, or Stripe. That's usually a definition difference rather than a bug. The common ones:
- Trials. Some tools count trialing subscriptions in MRR, others only once the first payment succeeds.
- Discounts. List price versus what was actually invoiced.
- Cancellations. Removing a customer the day they cancel versus the day their paid access ends.
- Past-due and paused subscriptions. Kept in MRR until they end, or removed straight away.
- Usage and one-time charges. Revenue, but not recurring revenue.
- Currencies. Converted at today's rate or at the rate on the invoice date.
Before you compare tools, pick one month, list the subscriptions behind each tool's number, and see which definition explains the gap.
Frequently asked questions
What is subscription analytics software?
Subscription analytics software connects to your billing system and turns raw payments into recurring-revenue metrics: MRR, ARR, churn, LTV, ARPU and how MRR moved (new, expansion, contraction, churn, reactivation). It's different from web or product analytics, which measure visitors and feature usage rather than revenue.
What's the best subscription analytics software for Stripe?
For the most complete pre-built metrics, ChartMogul, which is free up to $10K MRR. For a simpler dashboard with forecasting, Baremetrics. For revenue by marketing channel at a lower price, Chartsy. To stay inside Stripe with SQL, Stripe Sigma.
Is ProfitWell Metrics still free in 2026?
Yes. Paddle's product page lists ProfitWell Metrics as free. It's included for Paddle sellers and also works with Stripe Billing and several other billing systems. Accounts unused for more than 12 months are deleted.
ChartMogul or Baremetrics for an early-stage startup?
Under $10K MRR, ChartMogul's free plan costs nothing. Baremetrics starts at $75/mo on monthly billing but adds forecasting and optional dunning. Both price on ARR, so both get more expensive as you grow.
Which subscription analytics tools support Polar.sh, Lemon Squeezy, Creem.io or Freemius?
Chartsy connects all four natively. We couldn't find a native connector for any of them in ChartMogul, Baremetrics or ProfitWell Metrics, so with those tools you'd need an import API or a third-party sync.
Which subscription analytics tools show revenue by marketing channel?
Of the tools here, Chartsy does it out of the box: a website script connects each visit to the signup and the payment. The others report on billing data only, so you'd join it with web analytics yourself.
Which subscription analytics tools work with ChatGPT or Claude?
ChartMogul, Baremetrics, Chartsy, Chargebee, Maxio and Metabase all have MCP servers, and Stripe's MCP server has an analytics tool in preview. They differ in how you connect and what they expose: Chartsy supports OAuth sign-in or a token and exposes 19 read-only tools, while Baremetrics connects with an API key. See how to connect Chartsy to Claude or ChatGPT.
