Stripe analytics alternativeChartsy vs Stripe analytics

Stripe shows your MRR. Chartsy also shows where it came from.

Stripe analytics covers MRR, churn and retention for your Stripe account. Chartsy adds revenue by marketing channel, custom breakdowns, and one MRR across Stripe, Paddle and four more providers.

14-day trial, no card. Stripe details checked October 2026.

Short answer

Choose Chartsy if

  • You want to see which marketing channels bring paying customers
  • You bill through Stripe and another provider, or several Stripe accounts
  • You want MRR broken down by your own customer or subscription metadata
  • You want to ask Claude or ChatGPT about your revenue

Choose Stripe analytics if

  • Stripe is your only billing provider and the built-in reports answer your questions
  • You want benchmarks against similar businesses on Stripe
  • You don’t want to pay for another tool

If you only bill through Stripe and want standard metrics, Stripe’s own analytics is a good place to start and costs nothing extra. Chartsy is for when you want to know why MRR moved and where customers came from.

Stripe details come from Stripe's Billing analytics docs and Billing pricing, checked in October 2026. Disclosure: Chartsy is our product. Both tools get the same fact card and the same “not ideal for” line.

Why founders look elsewhere

Stripe’s numbers are right. They just stop at Stripe.

Stripe analytics is solid for a Stripe-only business. These are the questions that lead founders to add something on top.

  • Which channels bring paying customers?Stripe sees payments, not your website. Chartsy follows each customer from first visit to signup to first payment, so you see MRR by channel, campaign and referrer, including AI assistants like ChatGPT.
  • What’s my MRR across everything?Stripe reports one Stripe account. Chartsy adds up several Stripe accounts and Paddle, Polar.sh, Freemius, Creem.io or Lemon Squeezy into one MRR.
  • How do my own segments compare?Stripe filters by product or price. On Stripe, Chartsy turns your customer and subscription metadata into filters and breakdowns.
  • Can I just ask?Chartsy’s in-app chat and read-only MCP server answer questions about your revenue in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. Stripe’s MCP analytics tool is in preview and needs Sigma.
Fact cards

Stripe analytics and Chartsy at a glance

Same fields for both tools, including what each one is not ideal for.

Stripe analytics

Best for: Stripe-only SaaS businesses that want standard subscription metrics inside the Stripe Dashboard at no extra cost.

Stripe's analytics lives in the Billing section of the Stripe Dashboard (Stripe calls it Billing analytics) and comes with Stripe Billing: MRR and MRR growth, active and new subscribers, ARPU, LTV, trials, churn and retention by cohort, plus benchmarks against similar businesses on Stripe. You can configure how discounts and active subscribers are counted, drill into some charts, and download prebuilt reports such as MRR per subscriber per month and customer MRR changes.

Pricing
Included with Stripe Billing. Billing is 0.7% of Billing volume on pay-as-you-go, or an annual plan from $620/month for up to $100,000 of monthly Billing volume.
MRR rules
Active and past-due subscriptions; excludes taxes, free plans, metered products and trials. Cancelled or unpaid subscriptions count as churn. Metric configuration changes take 24 to 48 hours to apply.
Breakdowns
Filter and group by product or price on a subset of charts; not available when you process subscriptions in multiple currencies.
Exports
CSV per metric and prebuilt reports. For SQL, Stripe Sigma from $15/mo; for a warehouse, Data Pipeline from $65/mo.
AI and MCP
Stripe’s MCP server has an analytics tool in preview that requires Sigma.
Not ideal for
Businesses with a second billing provider or several Stripe accounts, and anyone who wants to know which marketing channels bring paying customers.

Chartsy

Best for: Founders who want an easy MRR dashboard plus revenue by marketing channel, on Stripe alone or combined with other providers.

Chartsy connects to Stripe with a read-only restricted key, syncs your last 24 months of history, keeps it current from Stripe webhooks, and shows MRR, ARR, churn, LTV, NRR and ARPU with an MRR breakdown by new, expansion, contraction, churned and reactivated revenue.

With revenue attribution, one script on your website follows each customer from first visit to first payment. Pass the Chartsy visitor id in your Stripe customer metadata, or let Chartsy match by email. See Stripe analytics with Chartsy.

Pricing
Starter from $9/mo, Growth from $29/mo, priced on tracked website visits and signups. Yearly billing gives two months free. (pricing)
Free tier or trial
14-day trial, no card. No free plan.
MRR rules
Billed amounts after discounts, normalized to a month. Trials don't count; past-due subscriptions count while payment is retried; cancellations count when paid access ends. See How We Calculate MRR.
Billing sources
Stripe, Paddle Billing, Paddle Classic, Polar.sh, Freemius, Creem.io, Lemon Squeezy, plus a Custom Billing API.
AI and MCP
In-app chat and chart builder (200 questions/mo on Starter, 2,000 on Growth), and a read-only MCP server with 19 tools.
Sharing and reports
Share links, PDF export, weekly email report, daily briefing.
Not ideal for
Stripe-only businesses that are happy with the built-in reports, teams that want benchmarks against other Stripe businesses, and anyone who needs SQL access to raw Stripe tables (use Sigma).
Pricing

What you pay

Stripe’s analytics comes with Stripe Billing, so there’s no separate price. Chartsy is an extra subscription, priced on website events rather than revenue.

Stripe

ProductPrice
Billing (includes analytics)0.7% of Billing volume
Sigma (SQL)From $15/mo + 6¢ per extra charge
Data Pipeline (warehouse)From $65/mo

Chartsy (monthly)

Monthly eventsStarterGrowth
10,000$9$29
100,000$29$49
500,000$59$109
1,000,000$79$149
  • At $20,000 of monthly Billing volume, Stripe Billing costs about $140/mo on pay-as-you-go, whether or not you use its analytics.
  • Adding Chartsy on a site with 10,000 events a month is $9/mo on Starter.

Rule of thumb: if Stripe’s built-in reports answer your questions, you don’t need to pay for anything else. Add Chartsy when you need attribution, other providers or your own breakdowns.

Before you compare numbers

Why Chartsy’s MRR may differ from Stripe’s

The rules are close. Both count active and past-due subscriptions, leave out trials, taxes and usage charges, and keep a subscription that's cancelled at period end until that period runs out.

The usual gap is discounts. Stripe lets you choose whether recurring and one-time discounts are subtracted from MRR; Chartsy always uses what was actually billed. Other causes are prices that changed but haven't been invoiced yet, multiple currencies, and other providers that Chartsy adds into the same total. The full rules are in How We Calculate MRR at Chartsy.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Stripe analytics?

For revenue by marketing channel, several billing providers or your own metadata breakdowns: Chartsy. For the most complete pre-built metrics: ChartMogul. For a free alternative on Stripe Billing: ProfitWell Metrics. For SQL over raw Stripe data: Stripe Sigma.

Is Stripe’s built-in analytics enough for a SaaS?

For a Stripe-only business that wants MRR, churn, retention and benchmarks, often yes, and it costs nothing beyond Stripe Billing. It doesn’t show which marketing channels bring paying customers or combine other billing providers.

Does Stripe analytics cost extra?

No. It’s part of Stripe Billing, which is 0.7% of Billing volume on pay-as-you-go. Stripe Sigma (SQL) and Data Pipeline (warehouse export) are paid add-ons.

Why is my Chartsy MRR different from Stripe’s?

Usually because of discounts: Stripe lets you choose whether discounts are subtracted, while Chartsy always uses the amount billed. Other causes are prices that haven’t been invoiced at the new rate yet, multiple currencies, and other providers in the same total.

Can Stripe show which marketing channel a customer came from?

No. Stripe records payments, not website visits. Chartsy’s website script links each visit to the signup and the Stripe payment, matched by a visitor id in customer metadata or by email.

Can I combine Stripe with Paddle or another provider?

Yes, in Chartsy. It connects Stripe, Paddle Billing, Paddle Classic, Polar.sh, Freemius, Creem.io and Lemon Squeezy and adds them up into one MRR. Stripe’s analytics covers only Stripe.

Is it safe to connect Stripe to Chartsy?

Chartsy connects with a read-only restricted key, so it can read your billing data but can’t change anything in Stripe. GDPR mode keeps customer names and emails out of the sync.
