Get started with Chartsy in 4 steps
Chartsy reads the billing system you already use and turns it into dashboards you can question in plain English. There is nothing to instrument before you see your first number - connecting a data source is enough. These four steps take about ten minutes.
1. Connect a data source
A data source is the external system your revenue actually lives in. Chartsy supports Stripe, Paddle Billing, Paddle Classic, and BigCommerce. Pick the one that processes your payments and authorise it - the connection is read-only, and the only write permission Chartsy asks for is the one needed to register webhooks so your data stays current.
- Connect Stripe (or several Stripe accounts into one view)
- Connect Paddle or Paddle Classic
- Install the BigCommerce app
Once authorised, Chartsy backfills your full history, then keeps up with new activity in real time. Your first dashboard therefore has trend lines on it, not an empty chart waiting to fill up. See Syncing and data freshness for what happens during that first sync.
Handling personal data
If you would rather no customer names or email addresses ever reach Chartsy servers, turn on GDPR mode before you connect. Every metric still works; only the identifying fields are left behind.
2. Start from a template
A template is a dashboard someone has already laid out for a specific job. Starting from one is faster than building charts individually, and you can change anything on it afterwards.
- Early-Stage SaaS - if you are still looking for traction signals.
- Revenue & MRR Breakdown - if revenue is established and you want it dissected.
- Pricing & Plans - if you are deciding what to charge or restructuring tiers.
- Blank Canvas - if you already know exactly what you want to see.
3. Ask ChartsyAI a question
Anything the template does not already show, you can ask for. Type a question the way you would ask a colleague - what is my MRR churn rate this quarter? or which plan has the worst retention? - and ChartsyAI answers with a number and, where a picture helps, a chart. Charts you want to keep can be pinned onto a dashboard so they refresh on their own from then on.
The AI chatbot holds the same conversation in a chat format, and remembers context across follow-up questions. Full walkthroughs: for SaaS data and for BigCommerce data.
4. Put it on autopilot
The last step is making sure you do not have to remember to look. Three things are worth turning on straight away:
- Weekly email reports - subscribers, MRR, churn, plan performance and geography, in your inbox.
- Daily briefing - today's movements summarised the moment you open the chatbot.
- Growth - add the script tag and a signup event to see which marketing channels produce revenue, not just traffic.
Where to go next
If a word on a dashboard is doing more work than you expected it to, Core concepts defines every object and term Chartsy uses - data sources, events, metrics, metadata, statuses - and the glossary lists them A to Z.
