How to Enable GDPR Mode in Chartsy

GDPR Mode lets you connect your Stripe or Paddle account to Chartsy without sending any personally identifiable information (PII) to our servers. You get full analytics - every chart, every AI query, every dashboard - while your customers' personal data stays with your payment processor.

What Is GDPR Mode?

When GDPR Mode is enabled, Chartsy does not store any personal data from your Stripe or Paddle account. This includes customer names, email addresses, and any other personally identifiable fields.

The only customer identifier Chartsy stores is the Stripe or Paddle customer ID - an opaque, non-personal reference assigned by your payment processor. This is enough to calculate every metric accurately, including cohort retention, LTV, churn attribution, and lifetime revenue.

GDPR Mode is designed for businesses operating under GDPR, CCPA, or similar data protection regulations, as well as those selling to enterprise customers who require strict data handling controls.

How to Enable GDPR Mode

GDPR Mode must be enabled during the connection setup - before your first data sync. It cannot be applied to an existing connection retroactively.

  1. Log in to Chartsy and go to the data source connection screen.
  2. Select your data source - Stripe or Paddle.
  3. Toggle GDPR Mode on before clicking Connect. This setting appears on the connection screen before authorization begins.
  4. Complete the connection. Chartsy will begin syncing your data immediately, with no personal information written to our database at any point.

Important

GDPR Mode must be selected before your first sync. If you connect without GDPR Mode and want to switch, you will need to disconnect and reconnect your account with GDPR Mode enabled.

Does GDPR Mode Affect My Analytics?

No. All aggregate metrics remain fully accurate in GDPR Mode:

  • MRR, ARR, churn rate, LTV, ARPU, and NRR are all calculated correctly
  • Cohort analysis and retention tracking work as normal
  • All ChartsyAI queries and dashboard features are fully available
  • Weekly email reports continue to send with accurate data

The only difference is that individual customer records will not show names or email addresses - they are identified by their Stripe or Paddle customer ID only.

Data Processing Agreement (DPA)

If your business requires a signed Data Processing Agreement - common when selling to enterprise customers or operating in regulated industries - Chartsy provides a standard DPA covering GDPR Mode usage.
