Share charts and dashboards with a link
A share link is a public, read-only address for one chart, a whole dashboard, or your MRR Breakdown. Anyone can open it without a Chartsy login, embed it in Notion or a website, or use its live PNG image in a README or newsletter. The data stays live, and you can revoke the link at any time.
What you can share#
- A single chart
- One saved chart from your dashboard, with its written explanation.
- A whole dashboard
- Every saved chart for one account, or the aggregated view across all your accounts.
- The MRR Breakdown page
- The full page, or just one section: Summary, Story, Movement, Plans, Countries or Customers. Sharing one section lets you send, say, the movement chart to your board without the customer list.
Share links work for Stripe, Paddle, Freemius, Polar.sh, Creem.io and Lemon Squeezy data. BigCommerce data can't be shared yet.
Create a link#
- Click Share on the thing you want to send: your dashboard, a chart card, the MRR Breakdown header, or one MRR Breakdown section title.
- Check the account. The share window preselects the account you have open and says so. Change it if the link should show another account or the aggregated view. You always see which account a link exposes before it exists.
- Optionally set an expiry date, then create the link and copy it.
Page, embed and PNG#
Every link comes in three forms. Use whichever fits where you are putting it.
- Public page
https://dashboard.chartsy.app/s/<token>/- the link you copy. It opens in any browser, with your company name and an "updated" time at the top. Pasted into Slack, iMessage or a social post, it unfurls as a picture of the chart.- Embed
https://dashboard.chartsy.app/embed/<token>/- for an iframe on your own site. In Notion, add an Embed block (type/embed) and paste the share link. Tools that support oEmbed can turn the link into a rich embed on their own.- Live PNG image
https://dashboard.chartsy.app/s/<token>.png- the chart as an image, for places that only take images: a GitHub README, a newsletter, or a build-in-public post.
A website embed looks like this:
<iframe src="https://dashboard.chartsy.app/embed/<token>/"
width="100%" height="480" style="border:0"></iframe>And in a README or other Markdown:
How fresh the data is#
A share link is not a screenshot. The page and the embed rebuild themselves from your live data and are cached for about five minutes, so a viewer sees today's numbers. The PNG image refreshes about once an hour.
Expiry, revoking and views#
- A link with an expiry date stops working when it expires.
- Revoke a link at any time with one click. A revoked link can never be used again; the record stays so you can still see what was shared and when.
- Each link shows how many times it has been opened and when it was last viewed.
- Deleting a chart also deletes every link to it.
Privacy and security#
A share link only lets someone read what you chose to share. There is no session behind it and no way from the page into your account. What a link may show is checked against your own access every time it renders, so if you lose access to an account, links to it stop showing its data.
Tokens are long random values stored hashed. Shared pages are kept out of search engines, and the public endpoints are rate-limited. Anyone who has the link can open it, so share it the way you would share a document link, and revoke it when it is no longer needed.
Troubleshooting#
- "This chart can't be shared."
- Only charts built from your billing or website tracking data can be shared, because Chartsy re-checks that data against your account on every view. Charts that read anything else are refused.
- "Sharing isn't available for BigCommerce data yet."
- The account is a BigCommerce store, or you picked the aggregated view and one of your accounts is BigCommerce. Pick a single SaaS account instead.
- The link no longer shows the chart
- The link has expired or been revoked, the chart behind it was deleted, or the address was copied incompletely.
- The numbers look a few minutes old
- The page is cached for about five minutes and the PNG for about an hour. Reload later to see newer data.
