How to Connect Chartsy to Zapier

The Chartsy app on Zapier starts Zaps from what happens in your billing - a cancellation, a failed payment, a new paying customer, yesterday's numbers - and looks up a customer's revenue from any other app. Connecting takes about two minutes.

Before you start#

You need:

  • A Chartsy account on a plan or a live trial.
  • A billing provider connected in Chartsy (Stripe, Paddle or another source), with its first sync finished.
  • For the signup and traffic triggers: the Chartsy tracking script on your site and signup tracking set up.
  • A Zapier account. Some templates have three steps (a Filter or a search in the middle), which needs a Zapier plan with multi-step Zaps.

Connect Chartsy#

  1. 1. Start a Zap with Chartsy

In Zapier, create a Zap and search for Chartsy as the trigger app (or as an action step, for the searches). You can also start from the Chartsy page in the Zapier App Directory.

  2. 2. Sign in to Chartsy

Click Sign in. A Chartsy window opens: log in with your Chartsy account and click Allow. Zapier gets read-only access to your Chartsy data.

  3. 3. Pick a trigger and an account

Choose the event, for example Payment Failed. If you have more than one billing account connected in Chartsy, pick it in the Account field; otherwise leave it blank.

  4. 4. Test, add your action and publish

Click Test trigger to load a recent real record, add the step that should happen next (Slack, Gmail, your CRM), map the Chartsy fields into it and publish the Zap.

Want a head start? The 16 Zap templates list every setting for the common ones - failed-payment emails, new customer posts in Slack, the Monday growth summary.

Signed in with the wrong Chartsy login?

In Zapier, open Apps, find the Chartsy connection and click Reconnect, or add a new connection and pick it in the Zap.

Triggers#

A trigger starts a Zap. Each one fires once per event, so a customer is never announced twice.

TriggerFires whenType
Subscription CanceledA customer cancels a subscription or schedules it to cancel at the end of the period.Instant
New Paying CustomerSomeone pays you for the first time.Polling
New SignupSomeone signs up on a site you track with Chartsy.Polling
Payment FailedA customer's payment fails.Polling
Payment RecoveredA payment goes through after failing.Polling
New At-Risk CustomerA customer pauses their subscription, or has 2 or more failed payments in the current quarter.Polling
New Daily SnapshotOnce a day, after 02:00 UTC, when the previous day's figures are complete.Polling
New Weekly Growth SummaryEvery Monday after 02:00 UTC, for the week that just ended (Monday to Sunday).Polling
Goal ReachedOne of the revenue or growth goals you set in Chartsy is achieved.Polling
MRR Milestone ReachedYour MRR passes a round milestone, such as 1,000, 5,000 or 10,000, for the first time.Polling

Every trigger has a ready-written summary field, one or two lines in plain words, so a Slack message or email can be a single field. The triggers reference lists every field.

Searches#

Searches are steps you add in the middle of any Zap to fetch Chartsy data on demand.

SearchWhat it returns
Find CustomerLooks up a customer by email.
Get Daily SummaryGets one day's revenue, MRR, subscribers, churn, refunds and traffic, with comparisons.
Get Current MRRGets your current MRR and ARR.
Get Business SnapshotGets the headline business review: MRR, new subscribers, churn, refunds, revenue concentration, at-risk customers and top traffic sources.
Get Revenue by SourceGets which channels, campaigns or posts brought paying customers and the MRR they bring today.
Get Traffic SourcesGets visits, signups and signup rate grouped by where your site traffic came from.

When Zaps run#

Instant
Subscription Canceled. Chartsy sends the event to Zapier as soon as your billing provider reports it, so the Zap runs within seconds.
Polling
Every other trigger. Zapier checks for new items every 1 to 15 minutes depending on your Zapier plan, and Chartsy refreshes these feeds every 15 minutes, so allow up to about half an hour.
Daily and weekly
New Daily Snapshot fires once a day after 02:00 UTC, when the previous day's figures are complete. New Weekly Growth Summary fires on Mondays after 02:00 UTC for the week that ended on Sunday.
Turning a Zap on
Events from before you switched the Zap on are skipped. A new Zap starts with the next failed payment or signup, not the backlog.

Several billing accounts#

If you connect more than one billing account in Chartsy - say a Stripe and a Paddle account - each trigger has an Account dropdown. Pick one per Zap, and duplicate the Zap for the other account. Find Customer searches every account when you leave Account blank.

Error messages#

Message in ZapierWhat to do
Your Chartsy free trial has ended…Pick a plan in the Chartsy dashboard, then turn the Zap back on if Zapier paused it.
This Chartsy login has no connected payment provider yet…Connect Stripe, Paddle or another source in Chartsy, wait for the first sync, then test again.
No Chartsy account with id …The account picked in the Zap was removed or belongs to another login. Pick an account again.
Chartsy refused the sign-in…Connect again from Zapier and click Allow on the Chartsy screen.

Zapier renews the connection on its own when it expires; you don't need to reconnect. Still stuck? See troubleshooting or contact support from the dashboard.

FAQ#

Is Chartsy in the Zapier App Directory?

Yes. The Chartsy app is listed at zapier.com/apps/chartsy. Search for "Chartsy" when you add a step to a Zap.

Does the Zapier app use my ChartsyAI questions?

No. Triggers and searches in the Chartsy app don't count toward your monthly ChartsyAI questions, however often Zapier checks them. Only the MCP route (Zapier's MCP Client) uses questions.

Can Zapier change anything in Chartsy or in Stripe?

No. The app is read-only: there are no actions that create or edit data, in Chartsy or in your billing provider. Zapier can read your figures and events, nothing more.

Which billing providers does it work with?

Stripe, Paddle, Lemon Squeezy, Creem, Polar and Freemius. Payment Failed and Payment Recovered need a provider that reports failed payments, so they don't fire for Polar or Freemius.

Why did my Zap stop with "Your Chartsy free trial has ended"?

Zapier's access follows your Chartsy plan. When a trial ends, Zaps error until you pick a plan. You don't need to reconnect, but if Zapier turned the Zap off after repeated errors, turn it back on.

How do I disconnect Zapier?

In Zapier, go to My Apps (Apps), find Chartsy and remove the connection. Zaps using it stop at their next run. The Subscription Canceled trigger unregisters itself when you turn its Zap off.
