Track signups from a plain HTML form

Add one attribute to your form. No code, with one trade-off to know about.

Before you start

The Chartsy script must already be on every page of your site, including the app where signup happens - it supplies where the visitor came from; this guide only adds the email. See the installation guides.

1Add data-chartsy-signup to the form

On submit, Chartsy reads the first field that is type="email" or has "email" in its name.

<form action="/signup" method="post" data-chartsy-signup>
  <input type="email" name="email" required>
  ...
</form>

Know the trade-off

  • It fires before your server accepts the form, so a failed or duplicate attempt still counts.
  • It needs a real <form> that gets submitted. A button that signs up with fetch() outside a form, or a form.submit() call from script, won't trigger it. Use identify() in the browser for those.
  • It needs access to the form's HTML. Visual builders such as Webflow, Framer, Wix and Squarespace don't let you add it.
