$199, one placement, and a clear answer within days - before I booked anything else.
In October 2026 I paid $199 for a placement in the hiPreneurs newsletter. I treated it as a test: one placement, my own tracking, and a quick read of the result before spending more on newsletters. This is how I used Chartsy to read it, and what I changed because of it.
For Chartsy, no. Chartsy recorded one visit from the placement - possibly my own link check - against a $199 spend. Part of that was on me: my ad didn't name one clear problem, and I didn't check what the issue would be about. Results depend on your product, your ad and the issue you land in, so test with one placement and your own tracking before booking more.
The expensive mistake isn't one placement that doesn't work - it's booking three more before you know. So I ran hiPreneurs as a single placement and tracked it myself, instead of waiting for the publisher's report.
Next time I'll also write down, before paying, the result that would make me book again: a number of visits, a signup rate, a cost per signup. Without a bar set in advance, any result can be talked into looking promising.
What Chartsy showed for the hiPreneurs placement (real data):
A result this clear didn't need weeks of waiting. The useful question became why - and what to check before the next placement.
The questions I asked after the placement ran, and what the numbers said:
Did the placement send anyone?
Chartsy recorded one visit from www.hipreneurs.com - and I suspect it was me checking that the link worked.
What did that visit cost?
$199 for one recorded visit.
Was it the newsletter or my ad?
One visit can't tell them apart. My banner didn't name one clear problem, and the issue was about AI chips rather than running a software business. Both need changing before the next test.
Should I book hiPreneurs again?
Not with the same ad and expectations. If I tried again, I'd check recent issues, ask where the ad will sit, and agree on reporting first.
| Task | Generic dashboard | Chartsy |
|---|---|---|
| Knowing if it worked | Wait for the publisher's report, if one comes | Visits from the placement in your dashboard within hours |
| Telling a bad ad from a bad audience | Guesswork | Visits, landing pages and signups show where people dropped off |
| Comparing with other channels | Separate reports, different definitions | The test next to search, launches and social for the same days |
| Deciding what next | Rebook and hope | Stop, change the ad, or try a different newsletter - based on numbers |
Decide the visits, signups or cost per signup that would make you book again, before you pay.
One placement, one UTM-tagged link, the Chartsy script on your site recording visits and signups.
Check visits, landing pages and signups from that source, and compare them with your threshold and your other channels.
The steps I took, in order. The full story, including the support experience, is in the review.
A logo banner, a short description and a link to start a free trial, in a single issue.
Chartsy recorded one visit from hiPreneurs - possibly my own link check. That was enough of an answer without waiting for anything else.
My ad didn't name one clear problem, and the issue was about AI chips rather than running a software business. One visit can't prove which mattered most, so I changed both for the next test.
Read recent issues, ask where the ad will sit, write the ad about one problem, agree on reporting up front, and track it myself.
Founders considering a hiPreneurs sponsorship, or trying newsletter sponsorships for the first time, who want a cheap, clear answer before committing more budget.
